Mass Media Communication

This blog is part of my academic work.To see Task click here.

Which is your favourite mass media platform for communication? Why do you like it? What are its drawback?

¤ Mass media means technology that is intended to reach a mass audience. It is the primary means of communication used to reach the vast majority of the general public. The most common platforms for mass media are newspapers, magazines, radio, television, advertisement and the Internet.

In this, Advertisement is my favourite mass media platform for communication. Advertising is directly related to the groups of people, rather than to individuals and therefore, it is a non-personal or mass communication. Good advertisements should attract attention and carry mass appeal. The message should be carried across to the target audience. The form of advertisement, whether TV, radio, print media or hoardings.

¤ Mass communication in advertising is very important, because the whole purpose of advertising would be getting the message across to those who will purchase goods, to consumers. Advertising also helps in promoting services and ideas.
Why I like it?
The key word is creativity. Advertising agencies employ copywriters, art directors and other creative force to help develop attention- grabbing ad campaigns through various media. Advertising calls for specialized skills and will have to be developed through dedicated efforts.

What are its drawback?

1. Lack of Feedback- It is very difficult to judge the effectiveness of an advertising message as there is no accurate feedback regarding its impact.

2. Undermine Social values - Advertisement is a sort of day-dreaming for the people. These days it is taking the people away from reality and into the realm of artificiality. Through its medium people get information about new products.  Only very few products are of any use for them. The brilliance of new products really gets on their nerves. They want to buy them but have no resources at their command. Consequently, they start feeling upset with their present status. Taking it as a social evil, it can be said that advertisement undermines social values.

Refrence.
