The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost

  • While studying Chetan Bhagat's   One Night @ the Call center as popular or rather to say youth’s literature as part of new literature. I came across the similar kind of experiences that me and friends around me facing same kind of problems related to relationships, generation gap and especially lack of confidence, which faced by Character of this novel. So, here I found beautiful poem by Robert Frost to give words to emotions. Emotions like ambiguious.

"The Road Not Taken" is an ambiguous poem that allows the reader to think about choices in life, whether to go with the mainstream or go it alone. If life is a journey, this poem highlights those times in life when a decision has to be made. Which way will you go?

The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

"The Road Not Taken" is all about what did not happen: This person, faced with an important conscious decision, chose the least popular, the path of most resistance. He was destined to go down one, regretted not being able to take both, so he sacrificed one for the other.

Ultimately, the reader is left to make up their own mind about the emotional state of the speaker at the end. Was the choice of the road less travelled a positive one? It certainly made "all the difference," but Frost does not make it clear just what this difference is.

Interaction with Dr.Vedant Pandya

I was reading one article on Jstore, Titled concerned teacher makes the difference"  by BILLY J. PASCHAL. In the introduction part He said  that… ‘The chief cause of low achievement of disadvantaged children are that, many teachers and principal honestly believe that these children are educable only to an extremely limited extent. Disadvantaged children rarely exceed the expectation level of their teachers, and it is devastating for these children to have teachers who have a low expectation level for their learning. The teacher’s negative image of disadvantaged children lowers the children’s self perception or self image and affects their academic achievement and classroom behavior.’

Well, I mentioned this piece of article in my blog to prove that There are teachers like Dr.Dilip Barad (at Dept. of English MKBU)who always concerned about students and keep organizing workshops and events related to our career. In Advantage of that we learn variety of things at same platform from various speakers, teachers, authors, translators and scholar of variety of field. Sir keeps on telling that As student of master or University one should always talking and preparing themselves for exams like NET and SET and for that through out the semester He keeps on inviting many professors.

Vedant Pandya is one of them and on 23rd january 2019 Sir invited him to deal with us on the NET paper 1. Vedant Pandya in his crystal clear style talked with us on all 10 components of NET paper 1.

1.Teaching Aptitude
2.Research Aptitude
3.Comprehension
4.Communication
5.Reasoning and Aptitude
6.Logical Reasoning
7.Data Interpretation
8.ICT
9. People, Development and environment
10.Higher Education System

And in detail He discussed about various universities of state and government and Grant in aid college, affiliated with Universities. For that I would like suggests to read Ramiz’s blog.

Moreover, it was fruitful session for us and after that we played Kahoot online game. It was related to content which was discussed by Vedant Sir. Overall it was an interesting session.

Interaction With Vishal Bhadani

- As above E-mail shows, Vishal Bhadani an author and translator visited our Dept. Of English MKBU on 1st January 2019. To listen a story from writer’s mouth it is really a beautiful chance for literature lover. The session divided in two part, in the first session Vishal sir talked about Short story and in second session He introduced us to Translation as career making opportunity.

1st Session
Dr. Vishal Bhadani published his story collection under titled ‘Fictionalay’. Sir starts with that, You can read Short stories in ten minutes but it will stay with you forever. And may be truth in this… His some of stories masterpiece of his work and His reading of story gave us Knowledge of where to pause and press on words for good impact on listener’s mind.
2nd Session
His second session based on Translation theories. As we all know there are many Translation Theories like
1.The sociolinguistic Approach
2.The Communicate Approach
3.The Hermeneutic Approach
4. The linguistic Approach
5.The literary Approach
6. The Semiotic Approach etc.,

Why is Translation Important?
Literary translation is of huge importance. It helps to shape our understanding of the world around us in many ways. Reading Homer and Sophocles as part of a classical education in school helps to build an understanding of history, politics, philosophy and so much more. Meanwhile, reading contemporary translations provides fascinating insights into life in other cultures and other countries. In a fast-paced world so rife with misunderstanding and confusion, such efforts to share knowledge and experiences across cultural boundaries should be applauded.

That is why translation is an emerging and intersting field for academia. Vishal Sir shared his personal experiances of translation work.

Apart from that, 2nd session became an more interesting for everyone because Vishal Sir made an interactive. He gave us one worksheet and in that we have done Translation. Here is my translation work.

That was a memorable session. We came to know about that we have some new opportunities in this area of Translation. And Translation is always and interesting task though it is not easy too, but it always opens new door for literature.

Mass Media Communication

This blog is part of my academic work.To see Task click here.

Which is your favourite mass media platform for communication? Why do you like it? What are its drawback?

¤ Mass media means technology that is intended to reach a mass audience. It is the primary means of communication used to reach the vast majority of the general public. The most common platforms for mass media are newspapers, magazines, radio, television, advertisement and the Internet.

In this, Advertisement is my favourite mass media platform for communication. Advertising is directly related to the groups of people, rather than to individuals and therefore, it is a non-personal or mass communication. Good advertisements should attract attention and carry mass appeal. The message should be carried across to the target audience. The form of advertisement, whether TV, radio, print media or hoardings.

¤ Mass communication in advertising is very important, because the whole purpose of advertising would be getting the message across to those who will purchase goods, to consumers. Advertising also helps in promoting services and ideas.
Why I like it?
The key word is creativity. Advertising agencies employ copywriters, art directors and other creative force to help develop attention- grabbing ad campaigns through various media. Advertising calls for specialized skills and will have to be developed through dedicated efforts.

What are its drawback?

1. Lack of Feedback- It is very difficult to judge the effectiveness of an advertising message as there is no accurate feedback regarding its impact.

2. Undermine Social values - Advertisement is a sort of day-dreaming for the people. These days it is taking the people away from reality and into the realm of artificiality. Through its medium people get information about new products.  Only very few products are of any use for them. The brilliance of new products really gets on their nerves. They want to buy them but have no resources at their command. Consequently, they start feeling upset with their present status. Taking it as a social evil, it can be said that advertisement undermines social values.

Technology in Eduacation.

(1) Why is it necessary to use Technology in Education?
From ‘Rishiparampara’ to various online education platform people using different or rather to say implement various method in teaching. Today, where we are living, technology is everywhere, entwined in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play and most importantly how we learn. Thus Technology has already changed the world, including the way we learn and teach. When used correctly, classroom technology can have a supremely positive impact on student outcomes at every grade level.
Here, some examples that how technology is necessary in classroom.

1.Technology makes teaching easy
2.Technology helps to track students’ progress
3.Technology makes distance learning more accessible than ever before
4.Students and teacher can access information at any time!
5.Technology makes collaboration more effective!

(2) What is the difference between 'using' and 'integrating' technology?

The main difference between using and integrating technology is, to using technology means to be a downloader and integrating technology means to be a performer in digital platform. In short to be a downloader to uploader.
Teachers often use technology in the classroom. However, the goal of educational technology is not only for teachers to use technology but also to integrate or incorporate technology in teaching. By using modern devices and online learning tools, some teachers think that they are already successful with technology integration, but in reality, they are only using technology to teach students but not to engage them entirely with what they are teaching. Thus, it is important for all teachers to understand the differences between technology use and technology integration.

  (3) How we integrate technology?

Teachers, administrators, parents, and students alike are being told that technology is the whetstone with which we can all sharpen our education system. Technology can open doors, expand minds, and change the world. But as I said that not only downloader make it possible, One should make it part of his/her everyday life and when students also become uploader of such useful educational material on cloud (which can helpful to everyone from any corner of world) than we can say that this is the integration of technology.

Thus, Integrating technology into the classroom not only helps prepare students for the elaborate and technologically-connected world they will face going forward, but it can also help simplify complex ideas that might otherwise be a struggle to learn (and a struggle to teach) with textbooks and a chalkboard.

 (4) Can Technology replace Teacher?

Technology can open doors, expand minds and change the world. But it doesn’t mean that technology replace a teacher. We need teachers who are part of adopter, integrator and part mad scientist! The modern teacher must be willing to take chances and able to figure out how not just how technology works, but how it works for each student, and where its use is most appropriate.

It is certain that classrooms are changing, and without a doubt they will look quite different in five or ten years than they do today. New technologies are being developed quickly. Though it is question that  Will MOOCs, Coursera or a similar online learning concept start to take over? Will we have robots for teachers?

 (5) Write in brief on David Crystal's views on 'effect of new technologies on English language', 'biggest challenge for English language teachers in the times of internet', and 'texting is good for English language'.
1.The effect of new technology on English language

Technology has always influence on language as David Crystal says. He  argues that the Internet has encouraged a dramatic expansion in the variety and creativity of language Covering a range of Internet genres, including e-mail, twit, and the Web, this is a revealing account of how the Internet is radically changing the way we use language.

2.The biggest challange for English language teacher in the times of internet

In addition, Crystal says that The biggest challange for english language teachers in the times of internet. He gives example that if new words come it rapidly reach to the everyone in this era of internet it didn't take much time, Language moves fastly. New words, slangs, expression arises and in this globalization of english language it's difficult for teacher whose generation can not learn so rapidly.

3.Texting is good for English Language

Here, in this third video Crystal talks about Texting and says that texting is good for english language and texting is kind of language. He also talk about the myth of texting that kids use abbreviation in text and because of that they don’t know how to spell correct word. David here says that kids do abbreviation because for them it is cool to do it.

(6) Name one web-tool which can help in development of all four L-S-R-W skills.

Technology has changed the learning environment so that learning is more hands on. And there is various platform which can help in development of  LSRW skills. In my case I found that Blogger and YouTube is very much beneficial in enhancement of all four LSRW skill. Blogger is useful tool to improve our writing and reading and in other platform like YouTube  is the best web tool to improve our listening and speaking skill.
